Oh the inner critic. The never ending judgements. The harsh words we say to ourselves about ourselves when we are trapped in a spiral of self doubt and self recrimination.
- You’re useless.
- Too fat.
- Lazy
- You’ll never be any good at anything.
- You really suck.
- Loser. I hate you!
To list but a very small few.
Monstrous! OK it’s tenuous but I couldn’t help myself 🙂
But truly, we can be so horrible to ourselves.
Say things to ourselves we would NEVER say to another human being because it would hurt them too much.
And yet many of us treat ourselves this way all the time.
It’s a normal state for some of us.
So today I want to encourage you to loosen the grip of the internal slave driver just a bit and ponder…
- What is inspiring to me right now?
- What/who makes me smile when I think of it/them?
- What activity could I do right now to raise my spirits?
You could try tapping on …
- Even though I’m giving myself a hard time today because________, I’m still a good person
- Even though I’m saying such horrible things like…what? fill in the blanks _____ & _____&______, I am enough
- Even though the truth is I say things like______&______&_________ to myself all the time and I see that now, I accept myself anyway
And then, making sure you’ve rated the intensity of your emotion on the scale 0-10, 0 being no problem, 10 being this feels horrible, tap through all the points (see video) while repeating those inner judgements and then see how that feels now on the scale.
Even a tiny bit better, even .5 or 1 point lower is great.
And just keep tapping until you feel kinder towards yourself. Do it often and you will be able to change your outlook for the better, easier and faster.
And because I walk my talk, recently when I’ve been nagging myself I’ve chosen to look instead at what is inspiring to me and really enjoying creating space for my body to release very old ‘stuff’ around my heart.
Then bringing that expansion into my work creatively so I can help other women find ways to release the dark, heavy tension and emotions we have around the need to be and do it all.
I’m enjoying unwrapping the places in me where I find it hard to create a thriving business and as I’m freeing up that energy I’m using it in a more open positive way in my work and my life.
And that FEELS so much better than berating myself for not being as perfect as I think I should be!
So please stop being so mean and cut yourself some slack.
Be your own best friend and be as good and as kind your bestie is to you.
You are enough, now and always!
